Competency Frameworks

Competencies are behaviours that individuals demonstrate when undertaking job-relevant tasks effectively within a given organisational context. The development of job related competencies has been shown to enhance the performance of individuals, teams and organisations indeed the difference in value between good and average employees is between 40-70% (Cook, 1998). Identifying what attributes are associated with top performance therefore impacts on the ‘bottom line’ i.e. sales and profitability.

Accurately identifying the competencies associated with successful performance in given roles enhances the effectiveness of selection, training/development, and performance appraisal processes. In addition it facilitates the identification, development and retention of top talent. For frameworks to be effective they need buy-in and job relevance: this isn’t generally achieved by generic frameworks.

North 51 has considerable experience of writing bespoke competency frameworks for major organisations in the healthcare sector.
